Aubeterre (5kms) is a delightful place, it's red roofs hugging the cliff side, overlooking the river Dronne. There is a beach with boats for hire, 3 tennis courts and a campsite. Wander up the winding streets, past the 12th C monolithic church carved out of the rock, to enjoy a cool drink at the cafe in the square. The unique puppet theatre is well worth a visit.

The cathedral city of Angouleme with its ramparts & old quarter offers a superb choice of restaurants. Not to be missed is the classic car rally every September.

Shops, post office, bank and a doctor are all to be found at St Severin (6kms). 

In Riberac (15kms) there are large shops, supermarkets and on Friday mornings there is the biggest open air market in the area.

There are many picturesque villages offering an excellent choice of restaurants, cafes and bars. There are plenty of opportunities to taste the local wines and 'Pineau des Charentes and the same with walnut oil.
